DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Product needs to be thoroughly cooked.

STOVE TOP

  1. Rinse Wild Oats Marketplace™ Organic Quinoa & Brown Rice Blend thoroughly before cooking.
  2. In a medium saucepan, add 2¼ cups water and tablespoon olive oil (optional).
  3. Bring water to a boil.
  4. Stir in 1 cup brown rice and quinoa blend in the water.
  5. Bring water back to a boil.
  6. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 25 minutes.
  7. Remove from heat and let stand for 5 minutes.
  8. Fluff with fork before serving.

Since individual stoves vary in temperature, these instructions are guidelines only.

FOR BEST RESULTS:
For firmer rice, use less water and simmer for a shorter time. For softer rice, use more water and simmer for a longer time. Do not lift lid while cooking; steam cooks rice.

Quinoa and rice are natural agricultural products. Despite the use of modern cleaning equipment, it is not always possible to remove all foreign materials. Sort, remove foreign material and rinse before cooking.

  1. Sharon says:

It would have helped if the amount of blend to add to the water was listed in the package. Maybe it was a typo but on my package #4 reads-stir in brown rice and quinoa blend. I had to check your website to get the amount.

      Hi Charmz,

      Hi Andrea,
It is vegetarian. There are no “natural flavors” as part of the ingredients.

  5. Melanie says:

I am using Quinoa & brown rice blend and doesn’t list the amount to use on the package. Also doesn’t tell you to keep it covered during cooking. Tastes good!!

    • Wild Oats Moderator says:

      Hi Melanie,
Thank you for your comment and for choosing Wild Oats. It’s really helpful for us to obtain feedback from customers as it helps us understand how the way we state things can be easily missed by people who are reading the package the first time. For example, even though we do state on the package “Do not lift lid while cooking, steam cooks rice” it’s so far down on the package directions that it’s really easy to miss.
As far as quantities go, we agree with you now that we look at the package through your eyes. The serving size on the nutritional panel is 1/4 cup and the directions use 1 cup but we don’t explain that amount is for four servings. We’ll make sure we fix those potential misunderstandings in our next package revision.
Thank her for helping us “see through fresh eyes”.

  10. cherie says:

wondering if quinos & brown rice blend is non-gmo.
If it were why wouldn’t you put that on the label?
I called your 1-8– number today: the fellow who
answered said it says on your website that this product
    is non-gmo, but I can’t find it.
    Trying to be frustrating? Cherie

    • Chelsea Vurciaga says:

Hi Cherie – All certified organic products are non-gmo, so anytime that you see the certified organic label you can be confident that it is non-gmo.

I have a package that says best by September 2015 and product of Bolivia. Is this safe to eat now?

    • Chelsea Vurciaga says:

Hi Simone! If the product best-by date has passed and the product is expired, please do not consume the product. Thanks!

  12. Kristy says:

I have made this twice now and I follow the directions to a T. Both times I end up with undercooked rice and waaay to much water in the pot. Then inbasically have to “mcguiver” it to finally get it cooked. Always ends up taking about an hour.Anyone else have this frustrating problem?

    • Chelsea Vurciaga says:

Hi Kristy! Try leaving the lid on the pot and letting it steam a little before serving. That can help with any excess moisture. Thanks!

  13. LeBaron says:

can the organic quinoa & brown rice be cooked in a rice cooker? if so, do I start with boiling water first or follow usual rice cooker directions? hoping to have this for supper this evening. Thanks

  14. jamie says:

    Is this gluten free?

    • Chelsea Vurciaga says:

Hi Jamie! Technically speaking quinoa is gluten free based on the definition of gluten created for those with celiac disease. However, quinoa does have “gluten like” storage proteins that can mimic proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. Thus, some with gluten sensitivity also have a sensitivity to quinoa. Thanks!

  15. laura says:

If I follow the directions on the bag and add 1 cup to water, but the serving size is 1/4 cup dry… what’s the serving size cooked and calories? clearly no one is going to eat this DRY so I’m not sure why that’s even put on the packaging.

    • Chelsea Vurciaga says:

Hi Laura – We cannot put any cooked nutritional info because there are different variables when it comes to cooking (such as adding butter), so that is why you find the uncooked nutritional info. Thanks for your great rating of the product! We appreciate it!

  16. Levi says:

Why can I not find this anywhere? Not in Walmart or even online

    • Chelsea Vurciaga says:

Hi Levi! We are transitioning out of Walmart stores and into new retailers! We will keep our wonderful customers posted!

  17. Kathy says:

Love this product. Always cook it with chicken broth, mushrooms and green onions. Problem is, where can I buy this now. Walmart is where I used to buy it but it’s not there anymore. Help!!!! Best Quinoa blend out there!
