Did you know that flowers have an immediate effect on mood, reactions, social behaviors and even memory?
Turns out, flowers are not just pretty to look at, they might actually help you feel better, faster.
Sending flowers to a sick friend is a nice thing to do, but did you know they also promote faster healing?
According to research conducted by Jeannette Haviland-Jones, PhD, director of the Human Development Lab at Rutgers University, flowers might be the cure for what ails you.
Flowers produce mental changes in both males and females, according to the study. Simply having flowers in your home can led to increased contact with friends and family, which can boost mood and buoy isolated feelings.
Studies have also found that as we age, flowers can ease depression and encourage companionship, perhaps because happy memories can keep us stay grounded in the vitality of life and help ease anxiety about growing older.
The idea that flowers may have health benefits has been around for centuries, evidenced by the fact that many medications are actually derived from plants and flowers. But it’s great to know that a walk in your garden can cure what ails you. It can actually heal your mind and spirit.
I can’t think of a better reason to spend more time outside enjoying nature’s bounty.
